Advisory
Connect the needs of your people with the needs of your organisation. Practical HR advisory, shaped around the way you work.
Based in Nairobi, Kenya. Rwanda and East Africa enquiries welcome; delivery location, format and travel are agreed during scoping. No Kigali office is claimed.
People systems that support the business.
When roles are unclear, performance conversations drift or HR processes depend on one person, another template alone may not solve the problem. We begin with the way work happens: what the organisation is trying to achieve, how responsibilities are shared and where people need better support.
Our HR advisory work connects HR strategy, organisation design and talent management with business priorities. For an SME or NGO operating in Rwanda, that means understanding the local context and involving the people who will use the resulting processes.
Where we can help
- HR strategy: translate organisational priorities into a focused people agenda.
- Organisation design: clarify roles, reporting relationships and accountabilities.
- Talent and performance: make expectations, development and performance conversations more consistent.
- Culture and change: help leaders communicate and support new ways of working.
What a scoped engagement can produce
The scope may include a shared diagnosis of current people practices, a practical people plan with owners and milestones, and working tools such as role profiles, review frameworks or process guides. We agree which outputs are needed rather than assuming every organisation needs the same package.
Working sessions and handover can help the team understand how to use the tools and who remains responsible for them. Any implementation support or follow-up should be specified in the engagement.
Start with the problem, not the paperwork.
You might need a focused review, support through organisational change or a wider people strategy. We first agree the scope, internal involvement and success measures. A useful starting conversation covers what has changed, what no longer works reliably and what needs to be different.
Policies and employment processes should also be reviewed for the law applicable to your organisation by qualified local advisers. Operational HR advice is not a substitute for legal advice, and this page does not claim Rwanda-specific legal certification.
See Ubumwe People & Culture or use our HR foundations checklist to prepare your first conversation.
A few useful answers
Common questions.
Do you provide HR consultancy in Kigali or Rwanda?
We welcome enquiries from organisations working in Kigali and elsewhere in Rwanda. Ubumwe is based in Nairobi. Remote or on-site delivery, travel and local requirements must be agreed during scoping; no Kigali office is claimed.
Can you prepare policies or role profiles?
Role profiles, performance frameworks and process guides can be included in an agreed engagement. Rwanda-specific employment and legal compliance should be checked with qualified local advisers.
Is this suitable for a small organisation?
The work can be scoped around a focused challenge rather than a large transformation. We first agree what the organisation needs, who will participate and what a useful outcome would look like.
